Pastor Jason continued his sermon series “Getting Past Your Past: Forgiving Those that Hurt You”.  When we have been hurt by someone it is important to deal with that hurt biblically.  The message was based on God’s word in Mark 11:25, “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive your sins.”  We may ask “Why Should I Forgive?”

1.  Because unforgiveness hurts me.  Hebrews 12:15
-       Unforgiveness is like cancer to the soul.
-       “Unforgiveness is like drinking rat poison and hoping it kills the other person.” Anne Lamont
2.  Because we will need forgiveness again.  Matthew 6:14-15

Do you remember the parable Jesus told about the servant who begged to be forgiven of his debt?  Then, the servant was unable to forgive his servant and the master comes back and says to him, “…This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.” Matthew 18:35  What a great reminder for us to forgive others.  We hope these 2 principles will help you to know how you can forgive someone who has hurt you?

1.      Pray for those who hurt you.   Matthew 5:43-44

2.     Forgive as you’ve been forgiven.   Colossians 3:13

The forgiven forgive others.  May your life be renewed and enriched as you take this opportunity to open your heart and forgive others.
